2024 Wyoming nonresident elk hunting changes

There’s no post-holiday blues when it comes to hunting, especially with application season upon us! However, for nonresidents who hope to hunt elk in Wyoming this year, there are a few changes to be aware of that could potentially affect your hunt this year.

In July, the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission approved changes to establish three nonresident region general elk hunt areas and general elk license quotas, according to a news release. What this means is that nonresidents with general elk licenses will be only be allowed to hunt in the nonresident region for which their general license is drawn. It’s also important to note that each nonresident elk region encompasses limited quota hunt areas; however, nonresidents are only permitted to hunt in areas designated as general and not limited quota hunt.

The commission will approve the final quotas during the season setting meeting in April 2024 with final season information published on May 1.

Residents will still be able to purchase general licenses over-the-counter like years prior – either a Type 1, 2, 3, 9, 0 or a general elk license. They can also hunt in any general license area in the state.
