Got some cash burning a hole in your pocket? Then does Montana have the auction for you. Next week, on Sept. 25, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (Montana FWP) will hold an auction at the National Auction House for items the agency has seized over the last few years. That’s right: You’ll have a chance to bid on a plethora of antlers, horns, hides and skulls – even a 390” bull elk – during this public auction.
The majority of the items, including 50 bighorn sheep skulls, moose, deer, elk, bear, mountain goats, mountain lions, martens, antelope, bobcats and more, come from poaching incidents and Montana statute requires the agency to sell the items at public auction, according to the Belgrade News. Grizzly bears are not included in the items sold.
“It’s a time-consuming process and requires a lot of logistics, so we try to wait until we have enough items to warrant the auction,” said Montana FWP Law Enforcement Chief Dave Loewen.
The last Montana FWP auction of this type was held in 2017.
All profit from the sale of auctioned items is deposited into Montana FWP’s general license account to fund conservation and restoration projects and programs.
