In the video above, Trail and I walk through our five favorite SITKA pants and when we would use them. Some pants fit a wide range of possibilities of hunting styles, and other pants are a little more specialized. But with that said, they each can serve you very well on a hunt. Be sure to watch the video to hear our thoughts.
The Timberline pant is a great option for when the temperatures drop. This has been my go-to pant on any late-season hunts for a long time. Plus the ripstop seat and knees are a great addition if you have to sit or kneel in snow. The Timberline pant also comes with SITKA's kneepads (which are removable) and they also come with suspenders. On late hunts when I have a lot of layers, the suspenders are very welcome. I will admit that sometimes I don't use the suspenders and just let them hang, but that right there is again the beauty of having them... you don't have to use them every second of the day.

The Mountain pant is in my opinion the most versatile pant from SITKA and I dare say it's my favorite pant. I can use these pants in the spring on a bear hunt and take it through the fall in early September and even later in the year if I toss a base layer under it. This pant also comes with knee pads that can be removed. You have a lot of the same features that are found on the Timberline pant, except you don't have the reinforced knee and backside ripstop fabric.
If there's a pant I reach for in my closet for a mule deer hunt, the majority of the time it will be the Mountain pant.

For those times when you're running up and down mountains in the early season, to summer scouting, these Ascent pants are the ticket! The Ascent pant is SITKA's lightest pant in their lineup and are very breathable.
These pants have the built-in knee pad sleeve but do not come with knee pads. So when I'm taking them on a mountain hunt, I always add the knee pads from my Mountain pants and it's a very simple process to move knee pads from pant to pant. The great part about the knee pads, you won't even notice they are there when you're hiking around. But once you start cutting up meat or working on something at camp, that is where they will shine!
The fit of these pants is also spot on. They are not baggy, and more of an athletic type cut, which in my opinion is a great feature on early season hunts. And just like the Apex pant, the Ascent pant does not have back pockets.
The Traverse pant has the nicest price point of SITKA's pant lineup. This pant fits in the middle of the road in terms of weight and is also a pant that you can take on a wide variety of hunts. One feature that is different than the other pants we are looking at is this pant features a protective/reinforced area on the pocket for attaching a knife.
This pant also has a more straight leg fit whereas the Ascent and Mountain pant have an athletic type cut. The Traverse pant does come with a back pocket for a wallet. Also worth mentioning, there is no kneepad sleeve.
If you're looking for a pant that is a great price, very quiet, and has a lot of great features... this pant will serve you well.

The Apex pants are a solid, solid option. They do come with the knee pads and again they can be removed if you don't want to use them. This pant is the middle-of-the-road pant in terms of weight from SITKA's lineup. One difference with these pants is the raised microfleece backing on the inside of the pant.
This pant works for Trail on 90% of his hunts, from an early season archery mule deer hunt, easily use it on an archery elk hunt, could easily spot and stalk some antelope without getting too hot, and you can even add a layer under it to extend the season of use into October. The fit is also very similar to the Ascent pant.
It should be worth noting that these are the quietest pants in SITKA's lineup. Perfect for the spot and stalk hunter looking for a slight edge. Lastly, a perfect feature of this pant is there is no back pockets. When I'm out hunting... I don't need to carry a wallet so having a back pocket is pointless to me.
