Free range bison hunting is available in Wyoming. Aside from South Dakota, Wyoming has more Boone and Crockett entries for bison than any other state. Three of the top 10 entered, and the reigning number one B&C bison are all from the Cowboy State. Most of the Wyoming B&C entries are from Teton county on the western side of the state near Yellowstone National Park. Applicants can choose from female/calf wild bison or “any wild bison” (meaning bull, cow or calf) when applying. Small groups of bull bison can usually be found on the Bridger Teton National Forest lands, east of Grand Teton National Park during the late summer and early fall. Cow/calf groups then typically begin seasonal movements to the National Elk Refuge, Shadow Mountain and Spread Creek areas during this time. Draw odds are among the best compared to all other free range bison opportunities, especially when you consider the high hunter success that Wyoming has to offer.
** Units listed below may not have a current hunt for this species. Units in this table are included if any part of the unit is found within the county.
**Other bison have been harvested from other areas of the state that have qualified for B&C, but not listed by counties
