This large and odd unit covers multiple small islands within its borders with the exception of seven islands which are their own GMU. Islands are a variety of ownership from state parks and wildlife refuges to private landowners. Islands can be quite thick, making excellent deer habitat. A GPS is key to know property lines on these relatively small pieces of land. Based on WDFW harvest stats, this is basically a meat hunt, however, a few older age class bucks are harvested every season.
Hunters will need boats to access most of these areas.
Within this unit there are multiple small islands just above sea level with a healthy population of deer. Some islands are thickly covered while others are predominately small single-family residential properties. A GPS will help you know your hunting boundaries and can be useful for game retrieval as well.
Thick lush cover with small tracks of cleared land, a few hobby farms and some pristine habitats that are critical to supporting wildlife populations make up the bulk of vegetation on the islands. Tidal flats and marsh land are common as elevations rise just a few hundred feet above sea level. A significant amount of introduced non-native decorative trees, shrubs and flowers are also present.
Each island is different, check regulations and fully understand the access parameters for the island(s) you want to hunt.
These are day trip hunts with no lodging options on the islands. Hunters can find sveral options for modern lodging just outside of the unit.
